Yes, occasionally I am lucky and get very close to some very shy Jungsuwonimals.  Here is Danny the deer.  He doesn’t come around much, he doesn’t trust our two German Shepherds.

But he knows I am harmless and so once in a while he comes to hang out.

Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim explains that animals are much more in tune with Ki energy than most people.  They have to!  In order to survive out there, in the wild, deer, for example, have to know what sounds are ok and what announce danger, they have to know what smells are ok and which ones not, and so forth.

Grandmaster Tae YunKim gives us the Code of Ethics, and teaches that animals naturally live by that, subconsciously.

Take, for example, “Body and Mind as One.”  In this, Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches that in order to accomplish what we need to do, we have to keep our Body and Mind together.  We cannot sit there, hold a book and think we are studying, when our mind, at the same time, is drifting off to going out with a friend!

Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim points out that in the Jungsuwonimals, this comes naturally.  They do not have to think about it.  In all they do, their body and minds are one!  Can you imagine what would happen if Danny the deer allowed himself to day dream?  He would be easy prey for the local mountain lions!

I was getting ready for a business trip, filming a series of lectures that Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim was going to give in Korea.  I had my gear already outside, including my jacket.

I guess Lilly the Lizard must have felt cold, or perhaps she, too, wanted to come along to Korea.  I didn’t want to disturb her too much, so I slightly touched the jacket.  She disappeared.  As I was going to pick up my gear, she was looking out at me, from the camera bag!  I wonder if she had her passport with her?

It goes to show that Grandmaster Tae Yun Kims  Silent Master Images apply to Jungsuwonimals as well.  For example, Grandmaster Kim says, “Your thoughts create reality” – and while lizards might not have the same level of thinking as we humans do, they still are able to make their own reality – Lilly saw the jacket, knew it was warm, and went inside it!

Grandmaster Kim also says, “You are creative energy” and Lilly, I think, was very creative in trying to hitch a ride all the way to Korea!

“You have the power to fulfill your dreams”, and although Lilly is a lizard, she still was out to filfill her dream to come to Korea with Grandmaster Kim.

Yesterday, in welcoming the Lunar New Year, Grandmaster Kim taught us more about Ki Energy – to adopt the power of a wild animal, and channel with its power by making the same moves, and sounds, as they do.  (Well, to the best of our ability   )  This was a special treat for all the JungSuWonimals!

At first, Grandmaster Kim had us sparr, using those sounds.  I noticed that the local cows had lined up in the background, wondering what on earth was going on, and joining all the sounds with their own.  I saw and heard several birds making passes overhead, and from the smell I could tell that even a skunk came to see what this was all about.

Can you guess what JungSuonimal each person tried to be?

I mentioned on another blog about Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s special outdoor training.  Yesterday was a very special day.

I mean, I have known that Grandmaster Kim is the World’s foremost Ki Energy Master, but yesterday was really really special.  You see, a Hawk came to visit us.  Now, where Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim lives, there are a lot of hawks.  But none ever came before the sun was even close to coming up, and none ever came this close.  It was a very beautiful moment.

Grandmaster Kim explains that we attract what we think. If we have beautiful thoughts in our minds, then we will attract beautiful and positive things.  If, on the other hand, we think only nasty and bad thoughts – that is what we are going to get.

So, let’s focus on the good, on the beautiful, on the positive and have a great day!

Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim, (as you know, my hero and Martial Arts Teacher), loves dogs.   She teaches that dogs can tell the Ki energy that is all around us, in us and all living things.   She has several of them.  The newest of them, Sarang, (means, “LOVE” in Korean) is my favorite and I am lucky that I get to take care of her a lot.  Sarang embodies one of the code of ethics perfectly, especially “Body and Mind as One.”  When she does something, she does it all the way. When she is on guard, she is on guard and nothing escapes her, and she will relentlessy pursue any danger to her Master.  When she eats, she eats with a passion, and when she runs, her body and mind work flawlessly together.  And when she plays – ah yes, when she plays – here is a little treat for you to see how she lives the code of ethics even during play time.  Enjoy!

This reminded me of Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s words of wisdom,

BE AN ORIGINAL, DON’T BE A COPY!

When I came back home I went to read about this in her first book, “Seven Steps to Inner Power,” on page 15.

Here, it says

“Now manyof the choices you make now, even your most important choices such as a spouse or a career, are really from your environment.  Even some of your good beliefs may not reflect your true being.  For example, a person who has become a perfectly respectable lawyer may have been thwarted from expressing his true love of designing cars.  When this happens, as it does to many people, you must recognize that you are simply being a “copy” of other people’s expectations, and not your original self.  You may have developed an entire personality and life that has little to do with your true self.  This is like being the Biblical house built on sand.  It must surely fall when it is stressed, one way or another.  Certainly, this “copy” will never feel a sense of peace or fulfillment even if it manages to get by and even if it has all the material comforts of life.

But you can know yourself!  Right now!  Your Silent Master is your original self still waiting to be born.  You can make the decision to begin replacing the false concepts about yourself with the knowledge of your true being.  You can stop being a receiver only, and start being a giver.  You can be who you want to become.”

Wouldn’t it be weird to see a turkey try to paint itself just to be like the others?  Or see a dolphin try to fly like an eagle?

No, we need to become who we were born to be!

Great Grandmaster, you got it right!  I think about this one a lot!

It finally occurred to me why Sam has turned invisible.  Squirrels are Henry’s favorite food!  No wonder Sam’s been hiding out in the old oak tree and only darting in and out for some acorns.  And while Ferdinand is fun for me to watch, he certainly wouldn’t make a good companion for Henry. Ferdinand the turkey is the class clown of nature.  Henry is the prince. 

Henry is just very different.  For one, he is a predator, a hunter.  I can see him circle way up in the sky on clear days, and I hear his characteristic hawk screech.  I watch him nose dive straight down and strike his prey and I have seen him sitting on the ground, enjoying his feast. 

But most of all I see him sitting on the fence rail in the very same spot every day.  He loves sitting there and watching what’s going on.  Sometimes he looks away from the house, out into the valley, and only turns his head once in a while.  Today, he was facing inside the fence, and I was lucky enough to get a few moments of him on video.  Whether I see him up in the air, or resting on the fence, he always reminds me of Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim’s words:

“Righ here and right now, let’s start celebrating!  Freedom is real. Freedom is possible.  You have power, truth, beauty, and potential within you always waiting to be discovered, always waiting to be expressed.  Brighter and more precious than diamonds, warm as the spring sun, and beautiful like spirals of galaxies sprinkled over this vast universe, your Silent Master awaits your return, so that together you will come forth as one radiant being in charge of your destiny.  What is stopping you?  What is holding you back?  You are free to be free!  Spread your wings!  Fly and be free!”  (The Silent Master, page 162)

Whenever I see Henry, he reminds me of something Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim, of Jung SuWon Martial Art Academy wrote:

“Freedom does not mean freedom from adversity or difficulty.  Freedom is the knowledge that you have the power to conquer adversity and difficulty.  If you could ask any animal living free in the animal kingdom, they would tell you that they aren’t free from “trouble.”  Predators are everywhere, and life is a daily challenge.  But all animals were born with instincts to protect them,a nd were given special talents and abilities to help them say alive and pursue their lives in freedom.  It is the same for you. “ (The Silent Master, page 141)

It’s been a while since I have posted and for a good reason.  I haven’t seen any of our Jung SuWon-imals in the yard lately!  Ferdinand and his kin don’t come around much anymore – they stay outside the yard, and although they are congregating in amazing numbers – in flocks of 50 or more – they don’t come so near anymore.  Maybe there isn’t enough food anymore for them to make it worthwhile….

I haven’t seen Sam the squirrel lately either.  I hear that squirrels semi-hibernate throughout the winter months, so maybe that is what he is doing.  I guess I better keep the walnuts I have been getting for him for when he shows up again….

This situation reminds of one of my favorite quotes in “The Silent Master”, written by Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim, founder of Jung Suwon Martial Arts:

“To me, one of the most perfect pictures of freedom is nature in the wild.  Birds are free to fly wherever their instincts take them, to the highest mountain or to the water’s edge.  Bears, rabbits, deer, creatures of all names and sizes freely roam the land, each finding their food and shelter in their own individual  way. Animals freely express their unique individuality.  No animal tries to be like another.  Mountain lions don’t try to live like deer or eat their food.  Rabbits don’t try to hibernate like bears.  All animals take their individuality for granted, “trusting” that nature provides everything necessary to fulfill their every need.  And the elements of nature are also fee and joyous, expressing and contributing their gifts abundantly.  The sun shines faithfully and warmly no matter what happens on the planet below. Rivers flow through their native surroundings bringing food for life. And beauty if everywhere.  The clouds, winds, rainbows, butterflies, light filtered through the forest trees – all come together in a beautiful picture of harmony.

You are a part of all this!  Freedom, beauty, and originality for you is exactly the same as for nature’s beings and elements.  You are an original!”  (The Silent Master, page 140)

Well, er, uhm, you see, they don’t wear clothes!  One day, who I thought was Sophie but turned out to be Sam, came right up to the sliding glass door with an acorn, sat down and proceeded to eat it with gusto.  He must not have been able to see inside the window, because on the other side of the glass, less than 2 feet away, there I was, enjoying watching him eat.  If the glass hadn’t been there, I could have reached out and touched him.  And being so close, and him not wearing any pants, well, what can I say…..

This whole episode reminded me of on of my favorite teachings of my Martial Arts teacher, Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim.  “Learn from your mistakes!”  Let me quote from her book, “Seven Steps to Inner Power.”

“Willingness to learn from your mistakes is the backbone to everything that can be considered progress.  How many mistakes do you think Alexander Graham Bell made in inventing the first telephone that conncted one room in his house to another?  Now telephone technology is developing that allows us to see the person you are speaking with on the other side of the globe.  How many mistakes did the engineers make while developing this technology?  Who cares?  The object is to succeed, not to count your mistakes.

Mistakes are also essential to your progress.  The minute you decide to achieve a goal that’s important to you, you will make mistakes.  How did we humans get the idea that to be perfect we couldn’t make mistakes?  Never making a mistake does not make us perfect.  Never repeating a mistake (after we learn from it) is as perfect as we need to be.

Imagine the freedom you’ll feel when you don’t have to worry about defending or hiding your mistakes.  Experience the increased energy that comes form this freedom!  Welcome your mistakes into your consciousness as your friends and teachers!” (Seven Steps to Inner Power, page 26)
